If you go to Washington DC today you will see monuments of presidents, statues, a wall with Vietnam War dead names listed in black stone, and other items that pertain to the fact that Washington is the capital. Rulers have always made monuments to record the events of their nation. Stone lasts and carved pillars tell the story or celebrates the victory of war. Today, we see them without the gold and paint that they once had. Yet, they are still magnificent works of history and art.
