Issues in a schedule can cause problems in projects because if problems in your schedule occur, you are immediately stressed that you won't finish on time or that it won't come out right. For loss of any other words, the stress basically makes you "freak out". It's simple. Instead of setting schedules considering the actual mechanics and known variables affecting the performance of a task (perhaps with a 'cushion' for Murphy's law), the focus is, and schedules are set, based on when completion is desired (read 'required). If the schedule is met, you can bet that some corner was cut, or other aspect was compromised (not quite right/pending follow-through/shifted to another phase) in order to get the performance 'points'. Some cleanup is inevitable-often more time (and costs) than it would have taken to do it right the first time. That's if it does get corrected. Something to consider: product recalls/returns.
