The ancient pyramids mattered to the Egyptians because they usually contain the burial places of pharoahs, queens and etc. However, other pyramids like the three pyramids in Giza, do not have an entrance. An entrance has not been found for those (without destroying the pyramid) and is believed to contain something important. The pyramids are also important because they represent one of history's greatest architectual acomplishments.

The theory is the Egyptians built the Pyramids as Tombs and 'machines' designed to transport the soul of the Pharaoh into the Heavens, Sirius the Dog Star, to begin his 'Eternal Life'. Another theory indicates the Egyptians used the Pyramids were used for ritual, not burial, as the Pyramid Texts (Book of the Dead) are not painted on any surface of the Pyramid. Without those spells you cannot enter the Halls of the Gods to be judged.

Ancient Egyptian religion was based primarily on nature, this was because of the economic dependence of Egyptians on the Nile. The Egyptians prayed for the floodwaters of the Nile, and even created a separate god for the Nile named OsirisThe Nile also symbolized life and afterlife. All tombs and burial places of the Ancient Egyptians, including pyramids, are located on the West Bank of the Nile River because the sun rose in the East, symbolizing birth, and set in the West, symbolizing death.By birdy
