If its the wheels with the emergency brake in it, possible sticking brake cable
I am having the same trouble. My brake lights work with the light switch for nighttime driving, but only far right brake light works when i pres brake pedal. Reverse lights dont work at all. Turn signals and hazard light work.
It means that in your Grand AM SE 3.3 your emergency brake is broken.
If the cable is broken and parking/emergency brake is still ON, then they are rusted in place ! - Your emergency brake system needs urgent work.
No. The emergency brake uses the same brakes. It'll be equally ineffective.
it does that on mine becsue the brake doesnt work if ur break works its probally a short or something
The only thing that will work with key OFF is the brake lights, head lights and emergency flashers. Dome light will also work.
The emergency or parking brake on 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee operates a set of brake shoes inside a hub on the rear axles, this is incorporated into the disc brake setup.
brake cable needs to be replaced or adjusted
Frozen cables out of adjustment
The brakes are self-adjusting - however - if you do not operate the vehicle in reverse very often, or are in the habit of not using the emergency brake, they may not have been able to adjust themselves. Try driving in reverse and applying your brake pedal several times to see if that does not bring the pedal up. Also start routinely using the emergency brake when you park. Applying it also adjusts the rear brake shoes. If neither of these ideas work, the self-adjuster mechanism may have become 'frozen' from dis-use and may have to be freed up by a mechanic. ALSO - check the brake system master cylinder to ensure that the brake fluid is up to the proper level.
You probably need to replace your brake light switch. It's near the top of the brake assembly, beyond a trim panel. The fact that all three brake lights don't work rules out problems in the multifunction switch (the cause of similar problems affecting only the two rear lights.)
