I believe it is perfectly fine, especially when the fish origionally has a shy nature. It is probably afraid of you. You might want to put in some aquarium plants or things like that so it can hide in those.
If the end they are huddling at is a different temp than the rest of the tank, that may have something to do with it, too. Check that out. Also, if there is something in the tank that is harassing them, they may be trying to avoid it.
Fish have not evolved to deal with glass. Your goldfish was probably spawned and reared in a pond (where goldfish do best) and so has not learned about glass walls yet. I do hope your tank is big enough for the fish to live and grow in however. The base rule for keeping any kind of fish is "1 inch of fish needs a minimum of 1 gallon of water". Goldfish grow to over 10 inches so a minimum sized tank for a single goldfish is around 12 to 14 gallons.
They are probably going to the least poluted bit of water and are also probably gasping for breath. My advice is do a water change ASAP. Then follow the basic rules below. The requirements for keeping any kind of fish healthy are as follows. :- 1 inch of fish needs a minimum of 1 gallon of water. :- Every fish tank needs a permanently running cycled filter. :- Every fish tank needs to have at least 50% of its water replaced every week. If you follow the above basic rules, you stand a chance of keeping your fish healthy. If you don't follow any one or all of them, then I can guarantee you will constantly have problems with your fishes health.
A goldfish at the bottom of its tank is often a sign of illness. This is not a natural behavior and could be due to overfeeding/constipation, parasites (illnesses), unhealthy living conditions, too hot or cold water temperatures, and more. Be sure to research an animal before you bring it into your home and to continue gaining knowledge to give it the best possible life!
This may be because they are hungryHope this helpsChels xx

they are at the bottom of the tank, and are very still. you can see their eyes, but they are just sleeping.
Does your snail have algae on it? Goldfish will eat anything that "grows" in the tank. They will eat turtle droppings, water scumm, algae, anything! That is why they are called bottom feeders.
