Why does 2004 Pontiac Aztec make whinning noise when turning corners?

if it is related to the Power Steering pump (would getting louder and faster as you rev engine)then the fluid is either aerated or the pump is worn. if it has nothing to do with the pump, and you can sit in the vehicle at idle and hear a feint whining noise there is a dust seal on the rack and pinion that makes noise and you can try lubricating the dust seal or replace it. The power steering pump making noise is common on these vehicles, and sometimes the fluid is aerated from a leak at the rack or power steering lines. GM's replacement pumps at dealers in the new England area are having a lot of issues recently with noise concerns as they are rebuilt. I personally replaced a pump in a lesabre 5 times and finally got a relativly new unti from a wrecked car that actually fixed the problem and I am an ASE mechanic that has worked at a GM dealership for a long time and seen many problems with those pumps.
