For months now Gaza has been sending misiles into Israel. A peace treaty was established but Hamas, a terrorist group in Gaza, repeatedly broke this treaty by continuing to send rockets into Israel. Israel is simply responding to months of attacks. When the Peace treaty was ended by Hamas, the rocket fire when up to 80 per day. After Cast lead the rocket attacks went down to 2 - 3 a week
AnswerWorld history has been littered with plantations and occupations and the results have always been the same, death, destruction and resistance eventually leading to assimilation or overthrow. Good examples are to be seen in various empires including the Roman Empire and the British empire. Answer1). Gaza is under military occupation. Article 42 of the Hague Regulations stipulates, a "territory is considered occupied when it is actually placed under the authority of the hostile army," and that the occupation extends "to the territory where such authority has been established and can be exercised." Similarly, in the Hostage Case, the Nuremburg Tribunal held that, "the test for application of the legal regime of occupation is not whether the occupying power fails to exercise effective control over the territory, but whether it has the ability to exercise such power."Palestinians living in the Gaza Strip, like those in the West Bank, continue to be subject to Israeli control. For example, Israel controls Gaza's air space, territorial waters, and all border crossings. Palestinians in Gaza require Israel's consent to travel to and from Gaza, to take their goods to Palestinian and foreign markets, to acquire food and medicine, and to access water and electricity. Without Israel's permission, the Palestinian Authority (PA) cannot perform such basic functions of government as providing social, health, security and utility services, developing the Palestinian economy and allocating resources.
2). Terrorists or freedom fighters depending on your point of view continue to resist the Israeli occupation with rocket attacks. The reality is the rockets contain no warhead and no guidance system. It can argued that the rockets are nothing more than a large firework with no powder. The mortality rate from rocket attacks since 2001 in Israel is 0.002%
3). In January of 2009, Israel broke the peace and launched operation 'Cast Lead' a massive military offensive against a civilian population. It banned foreign press from entering Gaza. It used white phosphorus (a chemical weapon) on UN sanctioned hospitals and schools (a war crime). Within 23 days the death toll had reached 1,284 palestinians dead, 6 IDF by enemy fire and 3 IDF by friendly fire. When the operation had finished Israel had claimed more land from the Gaza strip in the name of secuirty zones for their protection.

Hamas was/is firing missiles at civilians in Southern Israel.
The aim of the current operation is to stop Hamas from firing the missiles
and improve the security situation for Israeli citizens.
Because they are being attacked by Hamas, a terrorist government. elected by the people of Gaza...so Israel will defend herself.
Gazan War of 2008-2009
Neutral Name: Gazan War of 2008-2009
Israeli Name: Operation Cast Lead
Arab Name: Gaza Massacre
Cause: Hamas fired numerous rockets into Israel as retaliation for the Israeli blockade of Gaza. Israel said that it needed the blockade since Hamas refuses to recognize the State of Israel and had previously engaged in continuous militant activity.
Result: Israel won a decisive military victory against Hamas, destroying much of the infrastructure and capabilities of that organization.
Gaza is under military occupation which has been inflicted upon it. Imagine if your
country is suddenly sed to be someone else's country and you have to leave it,
that's wat Israel has done. (Never mind that there are so many Arabs living in Israel
today. Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.)After WW2, the Israelis had
no where to go and the palestinians offered them refuge and gave them
genorosity and what you see today is the repayment that the palestinians are
getting for their genorosity. (As well as for their military invasions, their standing
declaration of war, their rockets aimed at civilian residential areas, and their refusal to
recognize Israel's right even to exist. But we digress.)Article 42 of the Hague
Regulations stipulates, a "territory is considered occupied when it is actually placed
under the authority of the hostile army," and that the occupation extends "to the
territory where such authority has been established and can be exercised."
Similarly, in the Hostage Case, the Nuremburg Tribunal held that, "the test for
application of the legal regime of occupation is not whether the occupying power
fails to exercise effective control over the territory, but whether it has the ability to
exercise such power."
Palestinians living in the Gaza Strip, like those in the West Bank, continue to be
subject to Israeli control. For example, Israel controls Gaza's air space, territorial
waters, and all border crossings. Palestinians in Gaza require Israel's consent to
travel to and from Gaza, to take their goods to Palestinian and foreign markets, to
acquire food and medicine, and to access water and electricity. (Does that mean
that the water and electricity come from outside Gaza ? If so, who is actually supplying
those utilities ?) Without Israel's permission, the Palestinian Authority (PA) cannot
perform such basic functions of government as providing social, health, security
and utility services, developing the Palestinian economy and allocating resources.
Freedom fighters continue to resist the Israeli occupation with rocket attacks and
not just that, they attack Israel in self defence, because the Israelis are murdering
lots of palestinians everyday. (Israelis are not murdering lots of Palestinians every
day.) What do you expect them to do? The reality is the rockets contain no
warhead and no guidance system. (Then what in the world is their purpose, and
what are they expected to accomplish, other than to invite retaliation ?) It can argued
that the rockets are nothing more than a large firework with no powder. (If so,
then they confirm nothing so much as the stupidity of their proponents.)
The mortality rate from rocket attacks since 2001 in Israel is 0.002% (The nerve of
those uppity Jews! Refusing to die in sufficient numbers. If only 2 of every hundred
thousand Israelis have been killed by unguided rockets from across the border, this
should be no cause for complaint, and they should just suck it up and stop whining.)
They aren't even a threat to Israel, but Israel being the selfish coward it is, makes
it out that this is a threat to them. (The writer makes himself look so foolish with this
argument that the reader is embarassed for him.)
In January of 2009, Israel broke the peace and launched operation 'Cast Lead' a
massive military offensive against a civilian population. (Apparently Israel had
enough of Gaza's innocent fun of lobbing giant fireworks with no warheads and no
guidance system across their international border, do ya reckon ?) It banned foreign
press from entering Gaza. It used white phosphorus (a chemical weapon) on UN
sanctioned hospitals and schools (a war crime). Within 23 days the death toll had
reached 1,284 palestinians dead, 6 IDF by enemy fire and 3 IDF by friendly fire.
When the operation had finished Israel had claimed more land from the Gaza strip
in the name of secuirty zones for their protection. More injustice. (Are you talking
about the same Gaza strip from which the Israeli military had removed all Israeli
civilians, by force if necessary, and turned it over to the Palestinians ? Just before the
Palestinians went on the rampage, destroyed the mature, productive infrastructure,
and burned all synagogues ? That Gaza strip ?)

It is Israel that is bombing Gaza and Gaza is only bombing back to protect its
people (with large fireworks with no warheads or guidance system. Right ! Good luck!)
and in self defence whereas to Israel it is a sport to kill palestinians, then take out
their organs and sell them illegally. (Heinous libel, often repeated for effect, but never
supported by the slightest evidence.) Another way to make money, another way to
steal the palestinians land. (Steal land by selling organs. The reasonable mind is
boggled.) (Israel has made more money by developing artificial organs than by selling
Palestinian ones. And helped more people around the world, too)
If you're referring to February 2009 - Operation Cast Lead - then the answer is simple. Hamas - the current governing body inside the Gaza strip, a terrorist organisation who seeks the destruction of the State of Israel since it's foundation, along with other smaller but with a close ideology started a fighting cycle with Israel by firing rockets out of Gaza onto Israeli southern cities (2 of them major cities which makes it really bad for the economy and the national morale in general).
Of course the Israeli Air Force responded by making precision strikes against the launching crews and their commanding officers deep in Gaza but this had little effectiveness and many voices in Israel including in the military started pressuring the government to go for a full scale ground invasion and take apart the terrorist infrastructure by force.
The week of the invasion, life in the south of Israel were unbearable any longer. The rockets peaked at something between 80 to 100 per day and the Israeli PM back then, Ehud Olmert, called for several government secret discussions that week and one of the discussions was scheduled to Sunday the next week. The discussion for Sunday never happened as it was a set up the Israeli government made public through the media in order to make Hamas and the other Jihadists not expect the sudden excessive bombings and ground invasion.
This pretty much sums up the several weeks and the things that lead for the ground operation after.
Israel borrowed Gaza's toaster and didn't return it.
Self Defense
The blockade of Gaza began when the Arabs started to fire rockets into Israel. So Israel decided that if the people of Gaza were going to be at war with Israel, People cannot go in or out. The blockade of Gaza is just that Israel doesn't allow people in or out, they alow food, medical supplies and everything else other than arms.
The usual in Israel; Judaism trying to survive, and Islam complaining when Israel doesn't feed the Gaza Strip (they were firing rockets into Israel from the Gaza Strip).
Not exactly. It's more accurate to say that terrorists in Gaza launch bombs and rockets into Israel on a regular basis.
Very good question. Rockets were fired from Gaza into Israel. We know that. What I would like to know is who gave them the rockets and why? Were they trying to get oil prices up?
The crisis is in the Gaza strip. Hamas (the domocratically elected terrorist government) has been throwing rockets at Israel, so Israel invaded Gaza and is killing a lot of people.
Looking at just the year 2012 alone, it was about 11 months after the rockets from Gaza began falling by the hundreds onto Israeli towns.
because Israel had to keep the blockade on the Gaza strip- there were already several times that Israel caught ships and boats with tons of rockets and other weapons -while those boats were disguised as something else. Israel offered the flotilla to board at an Israeli port 20 km from Gaza -where the supply will be checked and then transferred to Gaza but the flotilla refused for hours, ones they were about to enter the Territorial water of Gaza, Israel had to stop them.
No. Or, certainly less than the war crimes committed by Arabs firing unguided rockets into civilian towns in Israel.
The Israeli Government launched an attack on Gaza, called Operation Cast Lead, on December 27, 2008. This came after tens of thousands of rockets were launched into Israel during the Israeli-Hamas Armistice or Hudna.
the hamas is using them as human shields to fire rockets at israeli cities
No, Israel unilaterally pulled out of Gaza. The Palestinians then proceeded to destroy all structures left behind including greenhouses that could have been used to produce food and also started firing thousands of rockets randomly into Israel.
Nobody did that, and the Gaza Strip is not part of Israel.
