As of 2005, there are no more Israeli Settlements in Gaza.

Between 1993-2005, there were several agreements concerning cessions of power to the Palestinians that permitted certain areas to remain in Israeli control. Israel's withdrawal from Gaza was unilateral.

Was the state of israel a part of the Ottoman Empire that was ceded to the Israelis in 1923?

From 1517 until 1917, the land that is now Israel was part of the Ottoman Empire. After that, it was part of the Mandate of Palestine, until it was partitioned into Israel in 1948.

Did British give Gaza strip to Palestine?

No. Ironically, Israel did as part of the Oslo Accords. The Gaza Strip was occupied by the British without distinction from what would be the neighboring Israeli regions. The Gaza Strip was then Occupied by an Egyptian puppet government from 1948-1959* and then Occupied by Egypt directly from 1959-1967. From 1967-1993, Israel had a direct Occupation of the territory, but in 1993, Israel ceded most of the Gaza Strip to the Palestinian Authority. Israel ceded the rest in 2005. This was the first time that Palestinians had self-rule in the Gaza Strip since the development of the Levantine Arab ethnicity (of which Palestinian is a more recent term referring to those Levantine Arabs from Israel or Palestine). It is worth noting that the Gaza Strip is entirely within the land that would have been allocated to the Arab State according to UNGA Resolution 181 (II), commonly called the "Partition Plan". *Israel occupied the Gaza Strip and the Sinai Peninsula from October 1956-March 1957 as a result of the Arab-Israeli War of 1956. However, the brevity of the period prevented an established Occupation.

Why can't the two countries just share the Gaza Strip?

Ironically, the Gaza Strip is the only territory in the entirety of the former Mandate of Palestine (Israel and the Palestinian Territories) that is not actually contested between the Israeli and Palestinian governments. Israel ceded significant control of the Gaza Strip to the Palestinian Authority in 1993 and subsequently gave it full control in 2005.The reason that there have been numerous wars in the Gaza Strip is because the Hamas government that currently rules over the Gaza Strip has a policy that peace with Israel is impossible and continues to lash out against Israel. If the Gaza Strip was more willing to behave peacefully with its neighbors (both Egypt and Israel), there would be fewer conflicts in the Gaza Strip. (Even Palestinians are getting tired of Hamas as can be seen in the parody of the "Thank You Hamas" videos.)

Why does Israel illegally occupy East Jerusalem?

Pursuant to the UN Resolution 242, Israel is allowed to manage all territories taken in the 1967 Six-Day War until such time as a Peace Treaty can be signed giving those territories to the proper nations to which they belong. East Jerusalem was part of the former Jordanian territory of the West Bank. When Israel reached a formal peace with Jordan, Jordan ceded its claim to Jerusalem and the West Bank to the nascent Palestinian Authority. Upon a formal peace treaty between Israel and the Palestinian Authority, the Palestinians will most likely reclaim East Jerusalem. It is notable that what is illegal internationally, with regards to the Israeli control of East Jerusalem is not that control per se, but the changes in terms of neighborhoods and demographics. In theory, the territory is supposed to remain unaltered, but this is not the case under the current Israeli administration. These changes are both part of the city's natural growth and an attempt to make more neighborhoods in prime locations Jewish neighborhoods.

Does Israel have anything to do with the Suez Canal?

Yes and No. It's in Egypt and built nearly a century before Israel existed. However, due to Egypt's belligerence towards Israel between 1948-1979, the Suez Canal was illegally closed off to Israeli shipping. In 1956, this prompted a war from Israel to acquire control of the Canal to offset the Egyptian blockade of the Straits of Tiran. In 1967, Israel conquered all of the Sinai Peninsula up to the Suez Canal, which was only ceded back to Egypt in 1979.

What Biblical ref suggests that the land of Israel will not be productive for the usurper?

All you have to do is to look at the modern state of Israel: the land of Israel occupied by Israeli's is incredibly productive, but as soon as it is ceded to or taken over by others it suddenly becomes infertile (eg the Gaza strip). Isaiah 35: 1 The wilderness and the solitary place shall be glad for them; and the desert shall rejoice, and blossom as the rose.
