Why does a 1999 Nissan Frontier check engine light go on and off after fixing four spark plug misfired and resetting it?

you probably have plugged egr ports . it forces the # 4 cylinder to eat all of the recirc gases thus a # 4 clylider miss fire. mine was easy to clean , it has 4 pipe pluge on the egr manifold that are in line with the ports that go into the cylinder DAN
