There are a lot of ways a cylinder can "blow".

If a piston burns through, it will keep running, but with a dead hole.

Same thing if a cylinder head cracks.

However, the master con rod is on #1 cylinder and the journals for the other 8 are machined into it. A failure of the #1 rod could conceivably destroy the timing enough that the others are out too. A catastrophic failure in the top (#1) jug could also send bits of metal into the crankcase.

You have no brakes on your 96 Ford Ranger when it is running but when is not running it seems to be fine?

The issue here sounds like it's the master cylinder failing. It is not retaining pressure when the engine is running. The reason they feel fine when the engine is not running is because the failing master cylinder is not getting power, and in essence is being bypassed.

How do you bleed a 4 port master cylinder?

If a pressure type brake fluid dispenser is available attach it to the top of the master cylinder. Other wise fill the master cylinder, start with the wheel cylinder that is furthermost from the master, and bleed until fluid comes out clean and free from bubbles. make sure to replenish the the master cylinder as needed. then proceed to the next farther wheel cylinder and repeat with the rest of the wheel cylinders. top off the master cylinder. Test with the engine off then with the engine running before driving.
