Perhaps he has Bipolar disorder? OK, joking aside, you might want a more steady relationship than that. Since I don't know this guy personally and don't want to give you generic advice, I would have to say that you should ask yourself it bothers you enough to not want him as a friend and/or boyfriend. If it doesn't, then there really is no problem. If it does, I would suggest talking to a mutual friend about what they think of it. Or to make it more simple, you could just talk to him about it.
