You don't say whether the weird taste is good weird or bad weird. If you've tried persimmon only once and didn't like it, the weird taste you describe could be due to unfamiliarity with the fruit.

If persimmons are a regular part of your diet, or something you've tried at least once or twice, it might simply be that something in the flavor of the persimmon tastes odd to you, or doesn't suit your taste at the moment.

Sometimes we find certain flavors are an acquired taste, that is, we mightn't like the flavor, or might find the flavor odd, the first time we try the food but sometime in the future we could try the same food again and discover we really like it this time.

On the other hand, flavors we once liked might, over time, cease to suit us.

Strongly-flavored and salty processed foods such as olives, salami, anchovies - and the notorious, or famous, Australian food, Vegemite - as well as some vegetables and fruits, can all be foods we don't like the first time but continued exposure to them can lead us to enjoy them eventually.

One of the main factors in becoming familiar with foods, and therefore enjoying their particular flavors, is to be in an environment where those around us eat and enjoy a particular food. This is how babies develop their personal tastes, by eating what others around them are eating.

Our tastes - our reactions to flavors - change over time; this is completely normal and happens to everyone.

If you don't enjoy something, or really dislike a certain food, then don't eat it. Just politely say you're not hungry.
