Poor mental health will almost always create problems in your life...no one wants to be sad all the time or not be able to socialize or function at even a subsistence level. If you, a friend, family member or associate determine that you should "acquire good mental health," consider seeing a therapist, psychologist or psychiatrist (Spiritual programs like church or 12-step are also helpful). Ignoring mental health can lead to loss of friends, relationships, finance, property, legal problems, employment issues and suicide. In a worse case scenario untreated mental problems lead to violence. This is why a person does not "need" to get mentally healthy, but there is a consensus that it's a really good idea.
