Steel has a heat capacity of about 0.49 kJ/kg/°C.

Solid plastics have a heat capacity of about 1.67 kJ/kg/°C.

It thus takes more energy to warm plastic 1 °C than to warm steel 1 °C.

As to why steel has a higher heat capacity than plastic...

It may be because plastics have more ability to absorb energy into the vibrational modes of the atoms in the long polymer chains than steel does in its fairly fixed crystaline/metal structure.

What are the benefits to having a stainless steel trash can versus plastic?

Stainless steel trash cans often look more stylish than plastic trash cans. In a kitchen this can mean that they match appliances and make the kitchen look more stylish and elegant. Another benefit is that stainless steel does not absorb any odours. If items such as food waste are being put in the trash can over time these smells can be absorbed by plastic. Stainless steel is also very easy to wipe clean and disinfectant spray can be used if required.

Why does a piece of steel heat up more than equal mass of plastic when both absorb the same energy?

Steel is more conductive than plastic is. The reason for this is that iron is more reactive than plastics are as they have valence electrons and plastic does not.

What are the advantages of using plastic over steel wings on windmill is stell costlier or plastic?

Using plastic over steel wings on a windmill is a good idea because the steel will eventually rust. The steel is heavier and the motor on the windmill will have to work harder to turn steel, than plastic. The cost of the plastic is actually a little more than steel, though.

Explain how you can make plastic sink and steel float?

Look at a ship for example... It is made entirely of steel but it manages to stay afloat. The steel ships are filled with air which causes the average density to be less than water's density (1.00 g/ml). If you had a piece of plastic it would just sink because the density is more than water.
