That is caused by too much gas getting into the engine after the key is turned off. If the mower is new enough to have a anti-backfire solenoid on the bottom of the carb then it must not be working. If it is an older mower and doesn't have one then the carb needs adjusting to back off the amount of gas.
If it backfires while you are driving, the intake manifold bolts may be loose or the gasket may need to be replaced. If it backfires when you turn off the ignition, the fuel mixture is a little on the rich side.
Not on a push mower that has no electric start. On a riding mower, yes there is an ignition key.
Sounds like the engine seized up from overheating or running without oil, although there could be other causes.
the solenoid switch on a riding lawnmower is located at the bottom of the carburetor bowl, its used to turn the fuel on and off. some older models don't have the solenoid. Also, there is another solenoid switch for the starter i think that's the one you want, that's located under the gas tank on the right hand side on the frame. good luck
Let it run out of gas. or put a kill switch coming from the condenser and ground it to the body of the lawnmower.......the contact with the frame should ground out the motor thus killing the motor
Turn counterclockwise.
Turn it 90degrees right then turn it180 degrees

its half a turn out of time. plug fouled install a new spark plug
The engine is running rich. Clean or replace the spark plug and the air filter. If problem persists, close (turn clockwise) the needle valve on the carburetor 1/8 turn.
if you are riding the horse pull its reins to the side to twist there head that way and use the reins to give them a pop to turn around.
