You have a serious electrical problem in your living room. Chances are your roof is leaking into an electrical box shorting something out. Call a roofer and an electrician. I wouldn't recommend trying to DIY here, as there is something wrong that could kill you. Electricity can conduct through wet insulation from whatever is shorting, so you can get zapped poking around even if you don't enter any electrical boxes.

Large traditional houses sometimes only have one living room and can function as a dining room, study room, or even a bed room. This is important to know because Japanese furniture is portable and when not used can be stored in an oshiire, a small part of the house that is used for storage.
I have definitely had problems with glare from living room lights before! I have even experimented with a few different types of light bulbs to try to mitigate the issue, but eventually decided that the best solution for me was to get some woolighting. Woolighting is a great solution because it not only eliminates the glare, but also diffuses the light so that it's much more pleasant to be in the room. I would highly recommend considering woolighting if you are having problems with glare from your living room lights!
