Have you done the little things to cross them off the list? checked/cleaned the air filter, pulled the plugs to check for fouling? (the back 3 are tough on the transverse mounted 2.8, I know) so check your plug wires for cuts in the coating, the spark may be arcing to an external ground or another wire. If you don't have a haynes manual, get one... it will tell you if you can manually read codes from the OBD computer, and how to do it. (My experience is with the same engine, but in a Grand Prix, on those cars it just took a short piece of copper wire to read trouble codes. The reason I suggested the trouble codes in the first place was that in the engines with high mileage, there was often trouble with the "ignition module(s)" or the back electronic plate that the modules mounted to. These modules and the plate sit on the front of your engine, and are quite easy to replace yourself, unfortunately I never found anyone who could test them to tell me if they were good or bad, so my experience was trial and error.
