It is possible that the charger is plugged into the wall, but slips out of your computer. Also, you may need to replace your battery if that is not the case. After so long most rechargeable batteries start to lose their maximum lifespan.

I had this problem. The alternator was fine, it was the battery that was bad. The alternator was "pegging" out the indicator bc it was trying to charge the battery, but it wasnt taking charge. Take the battery out and have it checked.

I don't know for sure, but I did work on my jeep and was going to change the crankshaft position sensor so I unplugged it from the harness.
