It's another form of control. In general, abusive men tend to be very insecure and there is concern that without controling you they would not otherwise be entitled to YOUR attention. They don't want others to see you as a valuable person so they do whatever is possible to control everything in your life. It's a sign of a very unhealthy person. Control. If he can get others attention over you, then he has yet again controlled you which is what abusive people do.
