Insulin is what catabolises (breaks down) glucose following a high carbohydrate meal.

Diabetes has 4 types: only type 1 diabetes is related to insulin (seen in children and adolescents). It is called Insulin-Dependent Diabetes.

Diabetes is basically very high levels of glucose found in the blood (greater then 250mg/dl) after testing. Where, normal fasting ranges of glucose = 70-110mg/dl

Type 1:

If their is a severe lack of insulin in the body. Glucose is unable to be broken down by the body (by stomach juices), because glucose is "dependent" upon insulin to be broken down causing diabetes (high levels of glucose in the body).

Is diabetes an example of hypersecretion hyposecretion or receptor problem?

Diabetes mellitus is not caused by a hypersecretion of insulin. A person with diabetes either produces too little insulin, or a normal amount of insulin that is not recognized by other cells in the body. Diabetes is caused by a lack of effective insulin. In type 1 diabetes the pancreatic beta cells are not producing sufficient insulin. Type 2 diabetes occurs when insulin sensitivity in target cells has decreased, so the insulin is no longer causing glucose uptake.

Can low blood sugars lead to diabetes?

High insulin levels occur in an attempt to counter high levels of sugar. Type II diabetes is caused by insulin receptors on cells not having much of a response to insulin. Hence, more insulin is released in an attempt to lower the blood sugar levels. This is why high insulin levels are a symptom of Type II diabetes, not a cause.
