Best Answer

It is because when surface is more, more does the ice get exposed to heat and thus quickly attains heat and energy. This makes it melt faster.

Does a sphere shaped ice cube melt faster than a regular shaped ice cube?

A cylinder shaped ice cube will melt faster because it has a greater surface area than the rectangle-shaped ice cube has. Cubes of ice with less surface area will melt slower. Ice that has very low surface area has more ice concealed inside than it does on the outside. Therefore, ice cubes that have more surface area will melt faster... I hope this will help you.. :) ..

Dose crushed ice melt the fastest?

in a sense, you are introducing a catalyst, that is, increasing surface area to the ice. in simpler terms, there is more area for heat to work on, so it does its job faster.

What color cup will ice melt fastest in?

Does the diameter surface area and circumference affect the heat loss?

yes heat loss is affected by diameter, circumference and surface area. Heat loss depends on the surface area : volume ratio.......the larger this is the more heat is lost if a cylinder having the same volume but a different surface area...(therefre radius and circumference is different)........the cylinder having the larger surface area will loose heat fastest

What type of chocolate melts the fastest in the sun?

Plane chocolate will melt faster because it has nothing in it and it will absorb more heat.

How surface area affects melting?

Regardless of the mechanism of heat transfer, conduction, convection or radiation, the larger the surface area the quicker the rate of melting. Melting rate is all about how much heat can get in, and a larger surface area will absorb more heat.

More surface contact with air.

Causes for the ice caps to melt?

Is the government of the US wrong?
