Most of the prevailing wind comes from the Atlantic Ocean in Britain as the wind blows from the ocean it carry moisture with them, and when it get to land then it fall to has temperate climate in Britain. this also the reason for the Britain has cold summer and mild winter, because of the prevailing wind. this explain that in winter the sea is warm so the warm wind blow to land in winter. but in summer the sea is cold and the cool air blows to land in summer. This is why Britain has lots of rain fall.
Most of the weather systems arriving at the UK have been blown in the direction of the Gulf Stream and so have spent many days over the Atlantic. This allows them to pick up a lot of water, some of which falls as rain on the UK.
It is noticeable that more westerly locations are wetter.
The UK rain so much because of BSC School in China...
Britain is an island at the edge of the North Atlantic, the trade winds starting in the Caribbean are relatively warm, and, on their way across three thousand miles of ocean they collectvapour in the form of clouds. South Westerly warm winds first land fall is mostly the UK and North West France. The warm wind is raised by the hills and mountains and cools in the higher atmosphere, causing the condensation in the cloud to turn back into water, precipitation, which falls to the ground as rain.
Not all the UK gets a lot of rain, the relatively flat south has had little rain over the last several years, and the south east, London area, is experiencing a severe drought and its only spring, traditionally the wettest time.
However, the North West which has the highest mountains, Manchester area, does in fact get quite a lot of rain.
How often it's raining or overcast is actually funny, my friend and I used to share the opinion that if it's not raining in England then it's about to rain. However it does have it's hot sunny days, just extremely rarely.
The summers of late have got a lot sunnier and drier though it must be said.
It is on the edge of the Atlantic. Most of the weather systems the United Kingdom gets come from the Atlantic. These often have a lot of rain in them. After Ireland, the United Kingdom is the next major landmass that these weather systems hit and they still have a lot of rain in them.
It doesn't rain THAT much. It goes by seasons.

In the south east, < 600 mm of rain falls per year. This is a large contrast to the south of the UK, which has considerably more rain fall per year.
no. the dessert is really hot so it doesn't get much rain
There is so much rain in the rain forests, because they are located near the equator. This makes their temperature high enough that it results in maximum evaporation of water, causing heavy rainfall to occur.
The type of rain we get in the UK is mixed.
Because of precipitation
So you can see how much rain fell that day when it rained!
