Happened to me, you need to turn the car back on. Put the gears down to neutral, while your foot is on the break and then push it back up into park. And make sure the hand break is up.
I had everything done right, I'm assuming the car just hadnt locked park in properly.

I have a 98 corrolla it gets stuck also . I have found that if you keep turning the wheel left and right while turning the ignition key , the key is locking and unlocking the wheel while trying to turn the key . It will loosen after a while . Also put some spray lubricant in the key hole .
