Your timing is still off. Turn the distributor....just a very small amount....and try again. Try clockwise and counter clockwise until you get it to start and run. Then get a timing light on it and set the timing where it should be.
what year? popping like a backfire through the intake? check the timing if it has a distributor.
burnt valve. do a compression test.
Plug wires in wrong order, distributor out of sync,Plug wires in wrong order, distributor out of sync,
Timing is out your distributor could be one eighty out try turning it one eighty.
A leaking spark plug wire can cause a backfire out of the intake, but the most common cause is a burned intake valve. A burnt intake valve will allow leakage during the compression stroke back through the intake causing a popping backfire out of the intake manifold.
A backfire is caused by many different things. Using the wrong grade fuel will cause a backfire, as the engine's compression ratio is usually too high and will detonate the Air/Fuel mixture, causing a backfire. It can also be caused by advanced or retarded timing. Advanced timing will cause a backfire through the intake, as the spark occurs too early and ignites the Air/Fuel mixture before the intake valve is closed. Retarded timing causes a backfire through the exhaust as the spark occurs after the exhaust valve has opened. Your problem seems to be advanced timing. A backfire is caused by many different things. Distributor has higher status than dealer. Distributor can appoint dealers. Dealers supply through distributor. Distributor supplies through the original source of manufacturer.
u have an intake valve bent or sticking open. run a compression check with all the plugs out and butterfly to carb open.
A failing cylinder
I don't think they had carburetors on the 89's. They were throttle body fuel injection. As far as the backfire and loss of power, check the firing order (in case it got messed up), check the distributor cap and rotor for moisture and carbon arc. Check the spark plugs and spark plug wires for damage.
Out of time.
