Your Polaris Sportsmen 600 transmission can be filled with any SAE certified transmission fluid. The manufacturer recommends that you do not over fill the transmission.
I had the same issue. I pulled the carb out and cleaned it. It was full of sludge from the gas. I had to clean it 3 times before I could get it to start.
roll engine over until the ( T ) mark is alighned in timing hole with piston to the top . adjust intake and exhaust to 0.15 mm or 0.006 in .
My 2002 was over heating because the fan temp switch on the lower right side of the rear of the rad was defective and not switching on soon enough. I have also had problems with air pockets and had to bleed the rad to get them out.

Polaris is only directly overheat if you are at the north pole.
If you are using electric start then check the battery. If you can't pull it over try turning the drive clutch by hand. If you can't do this then the motor is most likely seized.
