If your 1998 Ford Contour is shifting at high RPM, it could be due to several factors, including low Transmission Fluid, a malfunctioning throttle position sensor, or issues with the transmission itself, such as worn clutches or bands. Additionally, if the engine is not producing enough power or there are problems with the vacuum lines, the transmission may not shift properly. It's advisable to have the vehicle diagnosed by a professional to identify the specific cause and avoid further damage.
Running slow with high rpm is a sign of slippage. If the vehicle is a straight drive then the clutch is not grabbing and is slipping, if its an automatic then the transmission is slipping internally.
if it hits 300rpm its to low u mean 3000rpms
its a shift light. it measn your at the ideal rpm to shift into a higher gear. only manual trannys have this so im to assume your driving a stick shift.
When a 1994 Ford Explorer transmission changes gears at a high RPM this can signal that the torque converter needs to be changed. Over time these converters can become damaged due to normal use.
no you have to use the clutch if not it will take a toll on the clutches I have owned a warrior for over 5 years and never changed the clutches in it and I shift on the go. Mine won't let me shift in a higher gear if I don't have the RPM's. Maybe I am lucky, or maybe if the RPM's are high enough it won't hurt them.
Shift light, maybe? If it comes on around at a certain RPM every time, that'd be my guess.
The PCM limits the top speed of the vehicle by cutting back on the fuel if the engine RPM's are high enough to damage the engine
its a shift light for a manual trans. means opimum rpm for shifting to higher gear
3000 RPM
I would start by looking for worn vacum line to modulator. Or the modulator could be bad. the modulator is located on the transmission which tells the transmission to shift when the vacum pulls a diaphragm inside the modulator a certain distance. some are adjustable with a flat blade screw i believe.
My 1991 Ford Mustang 5.0 L - LX - was rated at 225 horsepower at 4200 RPM and 300 ft-lbs torque at 3200 RPM ( that of course was the high output 5.0 L )
the bottom cable on the thr body ether fell off or came out of ajustment
