Acetic acid (vinegar) is one of the biproducts when aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) breaks down.
burn it. If it smells lke vinegar, its in the process of hydrolyzing.
Yes...or at least it can be. While both contain "acetylsalicylic acid" (ASA) as active drug and the effect on the body is the same when first bought, the differences come in longevity. Multiple studies show that Bayer does not degrade as fast as the generic. Go smell that year old bottle of aspirin in the closet. It'll smell like vinegar since its degraded to a similar form to vinegar. Bayer degrades much slower while the off brand degrades rapidly. Spend the small extra for Bayer if you need to take daily aspirin. That's your life. Just using it for occasional pain? I'm sure the off-brand is fine.
Like the aspirin.
They need to be kept in a tight container. If they smell like vinegar it means they are old and should be thrown away.
The smell of vinegar from an old bottle of aspirin is an indication that the active ingredient in aspirin, acetylsalicylic acid, has decomposed. One of the products of the decomposition of aspirin is acetic acid, which is the active ingredient in vinegar and what smells. You should definitely not consume drugs that are past the expiration date that have decomposed! You may need to discard it because some meds can be toxic after a certain date, or after being exposed to sunlight, humidity, etc. As cheap as aspirin is these days, one should not hesitate to replace it if there are any questions at all about its freshness.
it smells sour (bad)
Like aspirin. They have an astringent sharp smell. Last time I checked, trees can't smell.
Aspirin tastes a little bit like vinegar and the older the aspirin is, the more it tastes like vinegar. This is because vinegar is a solution of acetic acid and aspirin is made from acetic acid and salicylic acid.
It releases acetic acid(vinegar) as part of the curing process.
It depends; did you wash it?!
Aspirin & Vinegar both contain salicylates. Combining the two could actually be dangerous to someone with a salicylate allergy.
