Why does my Peugeot 306 CD player only work when the engine is not running. Radio works fine with engine on and off any ideas?

I had this problem several times and its a fail safe. If the battery or radio is disconnected the radio will need a code. Once the right code has been put in it should never ask you again unless you disconnect the battery again. You should be able to get the code from Peugeot.
