The back system on most SUVs uses a separate thermostatically controlled expansion valve (txv) and can get clogged. Likely, the valve is clogged, not allowing refrigerant to flow and hence no cooling. Unfortunately, changing it is often quite involved.
It is Low on Freon. I have a Tahoe that does the excat thing when my freon gets low..the back will be freezing cold and the front not.
I'm having problems with the ac blower of my Tahoe in front.
There is a secondary condensor in the rear of the vehicle that works off of the primary. If the AC in the rear is working and not the front, it could possibly be the air handler or the blower up front. Does the front blow air? If so is it ambient, hot, or a little cool? Incorrect: The 1999 Tahoe DOES NOT have a secondary condensor the only thing it may have in the rear is a heater core IF it is supplied with rear heat, if you are getting cold air in back and not the front usually means you are low on freon.
does the front work? if the front DOES work, it may just be the hose to the back has a leak/hole.
No, the lowside service port for rear AC is not the same as the front. The lowside service port is located, in most vehicles, just beneath the back seat on the driver's side.
meow i am a kitty i mean moo im a meow
One thing to do is to check the A/C Relay. Mine wasn't plugged in once and it did that.
I have a 98 with rear ac. I had to replace a blower $165 from a local mechanic.
I had this same problem and was told that the rear ac lines are leaking. It doent make sense. but that is what i was tol $1100.00 to replace the lines I asked why would the rear work and not the front if the rear was leaking and they could not explain.
At the front of the AC compressor....
TAKE IT BACK
Mine turned out to be the clutch.
