your ignition timing is too far advanced. if it is an older car (60's-70's) it could be the grade of gasoline you are buying. try going up to mid-grade fuel.
You would probably hear a spark knock or pinging under acceleration or load. Check engine light may come on also.
Ping under acceleration or under load.
If the knock sensor failed the CEL (Check Engine Light) would be illuminated and the engine may "ping" or "spark knock" under load. Serious "spark knock" can damage the engine if allowed to continue.
You can drive the car but if the engine should ping (knock) under load, the knock sensor won't be able to tell the computer to retard the timing. Excessive pinging can damage internal engine parts.
Not much goes wrong with them! if your car is pinging under load this may be a bad knock sensor, but if you tap the block with a small hammer & the idol seems to change or the timing wanders this is the knock sensor failing. if the idol doesn't change this is a bigger issue
Could be a bad knock sensor. The ECM may be retarding the timing based on bad input from a faulty knock sensor.
it depends on what engine you have but most of them are a 5.4 or 4.6 or 4.2 and those have the knock sensors under the intake manifold on the passenger side.
Running hot or timing too far advanced
when it is under load it means that more and more is being demanded from the engine, be it from speeding up or turning on all auxillaries
The engine is overloaded in case it of generator set or any other load and in case of a car the vehicle is not engage in lower gear as per load and engine rpm.
Beneath the car, under the rear load space.
The knock sensor is located just below the intake manifold youll have to get under the car to see it, it goes right into the back of the block.
