if the smoke is black it may be that it is runing rich. on the other hand if it is bluish in color it may be a sign that the piston rings are starting to show wear.
condensation
chances are high that you blew a head gasket because white smoke is when coolant gets in the combustion chamber and is vaporized
ENGINE SMOKE Check Related link below
If you have knocking from the engine and smoke from the exhaust then you have far more problems than the car just not starting. Sick professional help immediately.
Water vapour due to condensation in the exhaust pipe.
Sounds like engine coolant is getting into an engine cylinder ( bad head gasket , warped or cracked head or ? )
White smoke in the exhaust means water is being burned in the engine. A small puff of white smoke the first time you start a car in the morning is normal. Water condenses in the intake, and engine and when you firsts start the engine it burns off producing a puff of white smoke. It is nothing to concern yourself with unless the car is constantly blowing white smoke.
Anytime a puff of smoke comes from a car it is usually not good unless it is a cool morning and it is a cold start. This causes condensation because hot from the exhaust meets cool air.
An observation
WHERE IS THE SMOKE COMING FROM ?
Plug your cars heater in to the out let. Then when you get in your car in the morning it will be warm
the "smoke" is always there when you breathe in the morning, when its cold, you see like a mist, that what that is, its just you usually cant see it
