It does this because it is broken. If you tell us what kind of car it is, we might be able to give you a few ideas that are more specific. Please specify year, make, model, and engine.
This is important. I wouldn't suggest checking the coke on a vehicle I'd suggest checking intake gasket leaks on. Different cars tend to have different problems.

sounds like your fuel pump needs to be replaced. next time it wont start, give the gas tank a little kick and try again
If that is happening, the battery on the motherboard in the computer is either dead or not properly connected. The battery can be replaced provided the right type. They are cell batteries which are similarly used in wrist watches.
The computer on a 2000 Chrysler Sebring is reset by disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes. This forces it to power off and restart.
