If the check engine light comes on when the vehicle is running, the powertrain control module has detected a possible problem with one of the emission control systems - take it in for servicing and have it scanned to find any trouble codes in order to repair the problem.
Make sure you are using Ford OEM (Motorcraft is not always OEM) Spark Plugs that are designed for you explorer.
