If the check engine light does not come on when your truck dies it's probably the idle air control valve
one of the main symptoms is the truck tries to die (stall out) when you come to a stop. also a rough idle
The most common cause for an engine to die out, while idling, is the idle speed is set to low. You can adjust the idle speed with the fuel injector vital screw.
Because you have a backed up header or something why the truck can breath.
I have the same problem with my 03. I havent figured out the check engine light but take it to a dealer and they will fix the idle problem. they know about it and if you take it to them they'll fix it for free. it has something to do with the computer needing to be cleaned out.
It can cause a rough idle. And it will also cause the engine to die when coming to a stop at times.
try replacing the idol air control motor.
What weather are you driving in first of all? Getting regular maintenance service will help keep your truck alive (running). Perhaps, your truck is trying to tell you something.
Try a simple tune-up. Plugs, wires, air filter. That is a good and inexpensive place to start.
bad oxygen sensor bad map sensor
possibly idle air control vault getting faulty or restricted air flow
Yes, it can cause low/unstable idle or die off at idle.
Sounds like a fuel feeding problem - maybe the idle is too low - the fuel pump is failing - of the fuel filter is clogged.
