sounds like the alternater squeling not the belt
Disconnect the battery negative terminal. Remove serpentine belt. Remove bolts to alternator and positive cable at alternator and harness. Remove alternator. Reverse procedure to install.
Remove the positive cable from the battery post. Remove the cables from the alternator. Remove the alternator wiring harness. Remove the belt by loosening the tensioner pulley. Remove the alternator retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install the new alternator.
Very easy. Disconnect the battery. Lift up the belt tensioner and slip the serpentine belt up off the alternator pulley. Remove the 3 bolts holding down the alternator. Unplug the voltage regulator cable from the alternator. Disconnect the positive battery cable from the alternator. Installation is the reverse of removal.
Positive.
Best to get a shop manual for this operation, if you have not replaced it before. Usually there is an "Idler Pulley" on many late model cars that is "spring loaded". You "Bias" this pulley (usually with a socket wrench) so that the serpentine belt has enough slack in it so you can remove it. Then you disconnect the Positive Battery cable, disconnect the "Field Wire" harness and Positive battery lead from the alternator, unbolt and remove the alternator. Reverse procedure to install new alternator. TommyTrouble
Disconnect the battery negative. Disconnect the wires from the alternator - there should be a quick connect plug, and, in the back of the alternator, you'll need to undo the nut which holds in the wire that goes from the alternator to the battery positive. Remove the serpentine belt... while not personally familiar with the Pontiac G6, it most likely has a serpentine belt, which means there's a belt tensioner... hook a ratchet to the belt tensioner, turn it counterclockwise, and it should leave enough slack to allow you to remove the engine belt. After that, locate the bolts which hold the alternator onto the mount and remove them. Once that's done, you just pry the alternator out.
There isn't a fuse for the alternator. The alternator is belt driven, and there'll be two lines coming from the alternator - one goes from the alternator positive to battery positive, and the other goes to ground.
Positively positive

Replacing an alternator on a 2002 Chevy S-10 or Blazer is some what easy Disconnect battery unplug harness on alternator loosen Serpentine belt if you are careful you can keep the belt on all the Pulleys remove the 2 bolts holding on the alternator and gently use a pry bar to remove alternator use two wrenches to remove positive lead wire place new alternator in position may require light tap with rubber mallet reinstall bolts and both wires and put serpentine belt back on and reconnect battery. Just be careful when disconnecting and reconnecting the battery. To prevent a potentially dangerous short and/or explosion, disconnect negative first, and reconnect it last.
Positive feedback in economic systems can cause boom-then-bust cycles. A familiar example of positive feedback is the loud squealing or howling sound.
Top of the engine, passenger side near the back of the engine compartment. Please be sure to disconnect the battery before trying to remove it as the Positive battery terminal is connected directly to it. You do have to take off the serpentine belt.
