It was part of General Eric Shinsheki's vision of the Army for the 21st Century, or at least that's the official take on it. It's supposed to symbolize a transformation of the Army, build morale, and so forth. All it really accomplished was to put a bunch of legs in berets, so that they can wear them more like Pizza hats than military berets.
Special Forces wear Green Berets Rangers wear Tan Berets Airborne wears Maroon Berets Rest of the Army wears Black Berets. But they don't really mean anything.
The cap colouration/symbol designate what unit they're from.

in 1914, the portuguese uniforms were given by the british army, so they were equal to the british army uniforms
The United States Army has several elite forces. The Army Special Forces are sometimes referred to as "Green Berets." There are also Army Rangers, and Airborne units. For many years, these were the only army units that wore berets.
berets i think
they wear smocks and berets and some wear clothes that border on eccentricity.
Its better to join the Green Berets as a Army Solider because you will get more experience and have a better chance of making it through the selection process and training. Civilians can not join the Green Berets. The GB's are Soldiers, not civilians.
The Marines are Marines. The Army has Army Special Forces AKA Green Berets.
