The RX8 has a common problem with the coolant level sensor in the expansion tank. Unfortunately the sensor is part of the tank and so the whole unit needs to be replaced, a fairly easy job to do!
To drain the coolant on a Mazda 626, locate the drain plug on the bottom of the radiator. Remove the plug and drain the coolant into a pan.

Drain plug for the radiator for Mazda Tribute 2001 is located on the right side bottom of the radiator. You'll need to remove the right side mud guard to be able to access it.
Check radiator hose, leaking water pump, look for hole in radiator, leaking coolant bottle or leaking seals.
Bad head gasket? Bad thermostat? Defective radiator cap?
Chances are you have a leak somewhere in your radiator or a connecting hose. While your engine is on, it sucks coolant in and once turned off, pressure pushes the coolant back to the radiator.
at the thermostat housing. follow the upper radiator hose you'll run right in to it.
The thermostat on a 1997 Mazda MPV is located on top of the engine, under the upper radiator hose. It controls the flow of coolant through the vehicle.
The engine coolant drain plug in a 4-cl 1996 Mazda can be found under the hood in front of the passenger seat area. You will see the pipe protruding through the firewall near where the glovebox is.
likely possibilities are the following. Low or bad coolant , water pump, thermostat needs changing, clogged radiator or lines, coolant temperature sensor or radiator fans not coming on, head gasket Also check the radiator caps on the hose and the overflow container. That was my problem. One or both may have to be replaced.
