Check Engine Light

Toyota RAV4

How do you reset the check engine light without taking it to the dealer all the time and being pinged for 80 a shot when its just the gas cap not being put on properly?

The computer will reset after a certain number of "driver cycles" (turning the car on and off). My recent experience with the CEL after a fill-up left the light on for about three days before it finally went out on its own. I guess the stringent U.S. emissions standards and the dirty byproduct of the rotary engine left Mazda no choice...they had to overinstall the sensors. It's a pain in the butt, though. I hate driving with that light on. Maybe the gas caps are faulty. Or you can disconnect and then reconnect the battery, if it comes back on it's more than just your gas cap.

Can you change the head unit on a Mazda Rx8?

it is not practical to change the head unit on a RX8

The above answer is correct.

There are many ways to make an after market head unit "fit" into the RX8, but you will probably lose the steering wheel stereo controls.

You can connect aftermarket amplifiers to the stock head units speaker output and use aftermarket speakers. Get the MP3/CDROM addition for the stock CDROM head unit from a Mazda dealer.

How do you fix the motorized drivers seat track of a GMC Jimmy if it will not move forward?

I'm expirencing the same problem on my 1997 gmc jimmy. I've opted to remove the seat and take a closer look, theres just not anyway to see the problem clearly looking at it upside down and sideways. Mine will move on the right side but seems to be stuck on the left side,so when i try to move the seat forwrd or backwards all i do is go sideways. so my guess would be to remove the seat( and im hoping this isn't an all day project) and see what i can do with it.

Where is the Mazda RX 8 ECU?

The RX8 ECU is installed into the black plastic box on the front, passenger (US) side of the engine bay.

Mazda RX-8

How do you unflood a 05 Mazda RX 8?

Press the gas pedal all the way and crank the engine over for 20 seconds. Then let go of the pedal and try starting. If it doesn't start, repeat the procedure.

Yes that does work, but i wouldnt reccomend turning the starter over for more than 8 to 10 seconds. Any longer than that will cause the starter to overheat an burnup if done often

How to change plugs on 1997 expedition v8?

For the 4.6L it's a fairly involved job and I wouldn't recomend it unless you are getting close to 100K miles or are having misfire problems. For the 4.6L it's a matter of removing or loosening the items that are in the way (such as the air cleaner drum and hose leading to the throttle body, as well as the electrical interface plugs and relays mounted on the firewall in the engine compartment on the passenger side of the car). Make sure you cover any ports or hoses that you disconnect to prevent dust or debris from getting blown into them. Removing the spark plug boots is usually the toughest part of the job, because there isn't enough room to get your hands in there to pull the boots off. I discovered with mine that a helpful technique is to use a length of strap type rope or cord and loop it around the spark plug wire. Then tie a slip knot in the rope and manuver the loop so it is around the head of the spark plug boot. Gently pull the loop tighter so it closes around the boot (NOT THE WIRE!). Once it's tight you can use the rope to pull upwards to disconnect the boot. Remember that the plugs are slightly angled on the Expedition's heads (towards the rear of the vehicle on the passenger side and the front on the driver's side), so you'll have to pull at a slight angle in order to release the plug boots.

After that it's all very straightforward stuff (blow out the area with compressed air, use a spark plug socket to remove plugs, gap new platnium plugs and use anti-seize compound on the threads of the new ones, use silicone dielectric grease on the boots, torque new plugs to spec, etc.). If you're unsure of how to proceed get a manual from Haynes for your vehicle.

Try put turps inside the radiator it cleans all the stuff that's suck inside and that should help.

How do you change the back 3 spark plugs on a 97 Monte Carlo z34?

I went to a garage to get my plugs replaced, and they said that it is very difficult and wanted to charge me $300.00 Dollars. All I ended up doing was removing that top Pillum. Now this is tricky because you cant reach the bolt on the drivers side to remove it, unless you take the air conditing stuff off. But i welded a bolt to my wrench and was able to get the bolt off. It saved me alot of time. Dave

AnswerRotating the engine, as someone originally had here, is NOT very easy with this engine. I actually broke my breaker bar trying due to the bolts on the front mount being rusted... (Copypasta from where I just answered this question elsewhere). There's also no need to remove the 'air conditioning stuff'. A flexible extension for your ratchet set (the u adapter mentioned below) did it beautifully.

You have to remove the intake plenum. This is a pain, but something I've got down to an art after all these repairs, it seems...

First, remove the bolts on the left and front of your coil packs, on the left side of the engine (facing it from the front bumper). Wiggle it free, and there will be one/two bolts holding on the intake plenum. Remove them, then over to the right side.

There are three screws holding on the throttle body adapter. Two are easy to see and get to, relatively. The third is under it, and usually requires a u adapter and deep socket to get it out. Now remove the seven bolts (and disconnect the fuel rail from the front), and it should just pop free. Take care not to lose your PCV valve in the back...and make note of where it goes back in. Now you can get to your back three plugs.

You might want to swing by O'Reilly's and get the 'throttle body adapter gasket' and the intake plenum gasket beforehand. The Throttle Body Adapter Gasket tends to shred if you don't put the plenum back in just right. It -is- outright easier to remove the throttle body...but that takes quite a bit longer.

How do you replace rear brakes 2004 Mazda rx8?

Remove the caliper, 2 bolts, then the bracket bolts, 2 bolts. Thread an 8.8M screw into the rotor and keep screwing it in until the rotor pops off. If you don't have such a screw handy, you can bang on the rotor with a hammer (although this process is much more aggressive in nature and it is possible to damage a wheel bearing while banging away at the rotor).

I've posted some videos to help illustrate the process: (part 1) (part 2

How do you change the back 3 spark plugs in a 1991 Chevy Lumina V6?

HELLO. AT FIRST GLANCE I WAS GOING TO TAKE OFF THE ALTERNATOR BUT THERE IS A BRACKET RIGHT BEHIND THE ALTERNATOR FOR THE MAP SENSOR. REMOVE THE TWO 13MM. NUTS THAT HOLDS THE BRACKET IN PLACE. PULL THE BRACKET GENTLY TOWARDS THE FIREWALL TO CLEAR THE BRACKET FROM THE BOLT STUDS. LIFT THE BRACKET UP REMOVE MAP SENSOR PLUG AND VACUUM LINE. PULL BRACKET OUT OF THE WAY GENTLY TO MAKE SURE NOTHING ELSE IS CAUGHT ON THE BRACKET. ONCE THE BRACKET IS PULLED OUT OF THE WAY YOU CAN ACCESS THE 3 SPARK PLUGS IN THE BACK TOWARDS THE FIRE WALL. IT TAKES ME LONGER TO EXPLAIN THAN IT DOES TO DO IT. IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN GOOD LUCKAnswerI just tuned up my father-in laws mini van and it had a sideways mouted v-6. I had to jack it up pretty high in the front and go in from the bottom. Wasnt as bad as it sounds. AnswerTilting the engine forward is a pain in the butt and risks breaking/stressing lines/connections. Still a pain, but easier, is removing the alternator. Disconnect the battery. Remove serpentine belt from the alternator by slacking back the tension pulley. Remove the front bolt on the alternator, tilt the alternator back to access the rear bolt. Once alternator is removed, access to the plugs is still tight, but you can reach behind the engine with the necessary tools (you will need extensions for your ratchet wrench) to get to the plugs. Just finished this job about 10 minutes ago. No wonder the car was missing on my 1990. Found gaps to be .055 - .075. For my year and model (3.1 sedan) gaps should be .035 AnswerI just did it and all I had to do was remove the alternator to get to the spark plugs.

I went in from under to change some but also found you can do it from the top as well and without tilting the engine.Just have alot of patients and take your time.

Rain and Flooding

How do you start your Mazda rx8 after it has been flooded?

Just an additional note, you should disconnect the 2 pin plug from near to the Left hand strut turret "as your looking at it with the bonnet open", if you do not do this unburnt fuel may damage the catalyst in the exhaust, plug back in when it has started and warmed up.

Unfortunately this happens on other vehicles not just Mazda's, the modern car will in most cases overfuel to start when cold, it would then expect to be driven more than 10ft out of the garage, hence the excess fuel is not burnt off, and washes the bores causing low compression and non start, it happens a lot on Vauxhalls as well and other vehicles.

So if you don't want big bills, then run the car as it should be driven not 10ft then stop and lock the garage.

Mazda RX-8

How much does the Mazda rx8 cost?

Like any other new car, price will depend on options or other variables such as mileage on the odometer, location of the automobile, whether it is a standard or Automatic (with a four speed!). The lowest I have seen has been $21,000 +/- and the most expensive was +/- $36,000 new.

Mazda RX-8

What size speakers fit in a 2007 Mazda rx8?

I do not have the answer myself, but a magazine named Crutchfield will not only have thespeakers that fit, but will also furnish specs like depth clearance to door inner panel and width clearance requirements.

The basic answer is 6x9/5x8 inch speakers in the rear deck and 6-1/2 inch in the doors. As the first answer said, check the depth.

Why does the Mazda RX8 flood when you shut it off?

The Mazda RX-8 tends to flood at cold temperatures or when the optimal temperature has not been reached. The reason is because the extra fuel washes away the oil on the rotor seals causing a drop in compression while the fuel injection system is still spraying even more fuel.

Flooring the accelerator shuts the fuel supply off.

****Actually the car will flood if it is not run long enough to get to normal operating temperature regardless of outside temperatures. In order to avoid this very expensive trip to the dealer you can run the RPM gauge up to 6000 for 5 seconds and shut the engine off (while it is still running at 6000 rpm.) Always let the car warm up and then run it at over 3000 RPM for a minute before turning it off.

Don't start the car, move three feet and turn it off.

See your local Mazda dealer if the car is flooding.

There are new engine management ECU flashes available to correct flooding.

You also may need a new engine, the engine warranty was extended to 100K miles by Mazda for most RX8s, have the dealer check your engine vacuum and compression to see if you need a new motor.
