How do you remove the radio in a Mazda rx8?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

I just did this today. 1. remove the 3 plastic screws below glovebox. 2. remove plastic screw farther down under dash (after you do above, you will know what I'm talking about. 3. remove panel (all screws should be out now) 4. go behind dash and remove two nuts that hold radio in place. 5. push on radio from behind, and radio will come out the front. 6. Detach all connectors (about 8).

PS: I removed the negative battery cable just to make sure the power is off.

If you do it right, you can get it out in 1/2 hour without damaging your dash. Don't believe the people who tell you you have to take your dash out. The only panel that needs to be removed is the one below the glovebox, and it's pretty easy to do that without breaking anything.

It's just behind the steering wheel above the steering column, its a small black unit roughly the size of a pack of cigarettes and just clips in, you only need to remove the cowl to remove it although if you need to replace the sensor ring you have to remove the steering wheel, and clock spring.

Mazda rx8 goes 0-60 in about 5.7 seconds.

Jetta GLI goes 0-60 in about 8 seconds.

Jetta is a compact family sized sedan, while the Mazda Rx8 is a sports car.

Obviously the Rx8 wins.

Can you change the head unit on a Mazda Rx8?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

it is not practical to change the head unit on a RX8

The above answer is correct.

There are many ways to make an after market head unit "fit" into the RX8, but you will probably lose the steering wheel stereo controls.

You can connect aftermarket amplifiers to the stock head units speaker output and use aftermarket speakers. Get the MP3/CDROM addition for the stock CDROM head unit from a Mazda dealer.

Synthetic oil rotary engine RX8?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Mazda USA doesn't allow the use of synthetic oil for warranty support on rotary engines starting with the 2009 model year, it will void the warranty. Prior to that, they only recommended conventional oils; but, because they did not explicitly disallow synthetic oil in the owners' manual, they can not legally void the warranty for use of synthetic oils. That would violate the Magnuson Moss Act.

Japan, Europe and all other countries suggest synthetic oil.

Mazda in Japan sells group IV synthetic oil expressly for use in rotary engines.

Mazda's rotary racing teams run synthetic oil.

Rick Engman, who has built more race winning rotary engines than anyone in the USA does not recommend anything other than synthetic oil in rotaries.

The reason for the myth that you can't use synthetic oil in rotary engines is twofold. First, when they first came onto the market decades ago, the additive package included with early synthetic oils caused some elastomer seals to swell and fail. This issue has been resolve for a very long time. The second issue is how well particular synthetic oils mix with gasoline when injected into the engine to lubricate the apex seals, and how well and cleanly those oils burn off. Because Mazda N.A. does not have the research or legal budget to allow them to recommend some synthetic oils and not recommend others.

What is faster a piston engine or rotary engine?

User Avatar

Asked by Tory9000

There isn't one that is "faster" and it depends on you're definition. Engine speed and the car's speed both can be defined as how "fast" it is. I'll try to answer for both cases.

If you mean engine speed (rpm), then yes and no. They typically are able to turn over at a much faster rate than piston engines because the inertia is evenly distributed into a circular pattern in the triangular rotors. In a piston engine the center of rotation is not the center of gravity (those points are one and the same in a rotary) and therefore centripetal force is unevenly applied to the cars internals. This makes high engine speed very tedious and expensive work (ie Honda s2000, BMW m3, Lexus lfa, etc) or failure will occur. Rotary engines on the other hand can be made to operate at high engine speeds without much extra in terms of cost. They do have limitations however. Heat distribution and complexity for basic repairs are two big ones. You can find more with a quick google search.

If you meant overall speed of the car, there is no way to tell. The size of the engine, size of the car, aerodynamics, etc would dictate things as well as the simple difference in engine type. Rotaries do produce a higher amount of power per liter in almost all cases over piston driven engines, however.

Hope that helps!

How do you change rx8 spark plugs?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Very easy. Jack up the car on the left side and the park plugs are an easy access on the left side of the motor. Unplug the spark plug wires (make sure not to mix them up when reconnecting). Use a spark plug socket to remove them and replace them.
