For the same reason, American television is heavily sensored. It's a way of formulating a society that agrees with your way of life. Books, Radio, T.V. are all forms of media. They relate information and ideas to mass amounts of people, by burning the books or sensoring T.V. you dont allow ideas contrary to those that you want the people to have, to enter into mainstream society and thus it becomes easier to implement your policies and steer the population anyway you want.
