Because he believes they are unsafe and not working properly.
Let me clarify. Battery is 3-4 yrs old. Veh. is 2001 VW Passat. Cables & connectors and cable insulation all look very clean and new. Problem was that the veh took 2 to 3 more turns to start than usual for a short period and now is not doing that.
Take both cables off. Remove old battery. Put new battery in. Put cables back on.
Just simply remove mounting bolt and cables and remove old battery under hood. There may also be a battery under the passenger side mounted to the frame. You will need to remove the bolts holding battery case to frame. There are cables to prevent battery case and battery from falling. Once dropped done, remove both cables and mounting bolt for battery. Remove old battery and replace with new.

take both battery cables off the battery then replace the light should go out but will come back if problem is not corrected
