Why does the brake warning light go on in a 1989 Toyota Camry?

There is a switch above the steering column (underneath the dash) that may need to be replaced. This is not visible from below the steering column. Good luck.

It is more likely that your brake fluid is a little low. Top it off and see if the light goes out.

I have the same problem with my 2001 Toyota Camry and i change the brakes paad on the problem solve.

If it only flickers it may be due to low fluid level in the master cylinder. Check your brake fluid reservoir.

That warning light means a light bulb is out. Check all of your brake lights (including the brake light on the rear dash!)

The 1993 Toyota Camry backup light fuse is part of the brake light relay switch. The brake light relay switch can be found beneath the drivers side dashboard.
