It is entirely possible that while you're filling the Jeep that you are in what's known as a purge cycle. This is the most likely answer if you are fueling it with the engine running. It's also possible that you've got a failed purge vent solenoid, which relieves the pressure in your gas tank as a semi combustible vapor into the intake manifold. This is part of what is known as the EVAP or Evaporative emissions system. If your check engine or service engine soon light is on it's likely due to the latter, if not the it's most probably due to leaving it running during fueling. Anyways with limited info this is what I can offer up. Hopefully you can solve the problem, sounds like it might take a lot of time to fill an empty tank otherwise.
The tank will be full. ????????
Man who killed Liberty Valance

Does the gas pump keep shutting off ? If so , try putting the gas pump nozzle all the way in and then pull it back about 1 inch . A gas station attendent told me that when the gas pump kept shutting off when I was trying to fill my Ford Explorer gas tank , it works for me
why does gas splash out when filling a 2002 chevy prism
It could be something with the pump itself, or you are going over the limit in what you paid for gas.
There is a safety valve in the car, so when the gas tank is full you here the click of the valve shutting off
