No. My 2002 Softail (Deuce) will start in gear, clutch in or clutch out, if the ignition is turned on.
The ignition module will send a signal when the key is turned. If the module is no good the signal is not sent to the other ignition parts,thus not allowing the car to start
Make sure you have the right key because the door key will turn the ignition but won't start the car.
