because it was designed that way...
most engines idle below 1000.
You cannot adjust the idle in a 1998 Cadillac Catera. It is computer controlled. If the idle is not at 750 rpms then there is another problem with the engine. Check for codes with an OBD2 tester.
The idle should be at 8 to 900 rpms, if lower then theres a idle screw on the side of the throttle body in front of the injector, turn it to where the idle needs to be.
It is usually because the revs fall below 1000 rpm and they should not fall below this figure. If they are falling much below then its best to adjust the idle sensor so they stop falling below 1000 rpm, otherwise dont worry about it.
Depnding on temp and loads, 600-1000 approx.
Idle speed will vary from 600-1000 rpm.Idle speed will vary from 600-1000 rpm.
bISS iDLE SCREW ON THE THROTTLE BODY
Most cars typically idle between 400 to 1000 rpm
If the 1999 Cadillac Catera idles too fast, the cause could be a faulty idle stop solenoid. It may be damaged or it may have become loose. If it is idling rough or seems erratic, the problem could be a faulty EGR valve. Other problems could be a vacuum hose leak or a clogged PCV valve.
Idle Air Control Valve.
Probably between 600 to 1000 RPM. RPM is revolutions per minute. Hovering right below 1k is the average for just about all cars.
5 to 6 hundred rpms. Is recommended idle
