Best Answer

At the Equator, the sun rises at about 6am every day of the year.

In the far north of Canada, the sun rises earlier than that in the winter, and later than that in the summer.

So in summer, the sun rises later nearer to the equator. And in winter, the sun rises earlier nearer to the equator.

Because when humans invented time-keeping, and clocks to do it with, we decided to make up

a special name for the time when the sun is south of us. After a world-wide contest to find the

best name, the judges picked the entry submitted by the contestant who slipped them the biggest

kickback, and a law was passed requiring that everybody shall call that part of the day "Noon".

A more accurate way to word that would be "why is it day when we are facing the Sun?" Because the sun is bright on all sides.

But anyways, the answer would be: daytime is just the word for when it is light outside, hence when we are facing the sun. Unless there is a supernova or some other great source of light other than the Sun, it will only be truly bright outdoors during the day, because sunlight cannot curve around the Earth or go through it.

That is all I can really say. =)

Not quite. Assuming you mean "noon" as "12:00 p.m.", it depends on your geographical position within your time zone - the Sun may be more towards the southeast, or southwest. Also, if you happen to live within the tropics, or more to the south, the Sun can actually be due NORTH at its highest noon - or directly overhead.

When the Sun is at its highest, it will always be on a line that goes from north to south - but it may be directly overhead, due north, or due south, depending on your geographical location and the time of the year.

Does the location of the sunset point correlate with how high the sun is in the sky at noon?

Yes, to an extent. In the northern hemisphere summer, the Sun rises somewhat north of east, and the Sun will be higher in the sky at noon. (In the southern hemisphere summers, the Sun rises SOUTH of east and is higher at noon.)In the winter, the sun rises south of east (north of east for the southern hemisphere) and is lower in the sky at noon.

What happens to the sun from noon to sunset?

The sun doesn't move; earth does. The Earth slowly rotates until the side the sun was facing is now away from the sun. Example: If the sun is shining on Florida at noon-sunset, the earth rotates slowly in that time until Florida is facing away from the sun and so it is night in Florida and day on the other side of the earth.

Where is the sun at noon?

At noon, the Sun would cross the meridian, wherever you live.September is close to an equinox; if you live at the Equator, the Sun would be at the zenith. For every degree further north that you live, the Sun would be a degree south of the zenith. For example, if you live at 50 degrees latitude North, the Sun would be 40 degrees above the horizon (towards the South) i.e., 50 degrees from the zenit.

How can you use the position of the sun to figure out the direction you are looking?

Real basic...the sun rises in the east and sets in the west. If you face the morning sun your left hand points north, your right hand points south and your back it to the west. If you are facing the afternoon sun your right hand points north, your left to the south and your back is to the east. The sun rises in the east and sets in the west. Before solar noon if you are heading towards the sun you are heading east and away from is west. If you know your compass points you can figure north and south off of your other positions. The opposite is true after solar noon. If you are heading towards the sun you are then heading west.
