Why does this girl avoid me but when I catch up to her and talk to her she smiles and laughs is it being polite or shy?

Well, I'm a shy girl, too. i can understand why this girl might be acting that way. most shy girls are scared talking to people more popular, taller, outgoing, or even just friendly if they don't know them well. we usually don't open up to people unless we've either learned lots of things about them or (this quote will totally explain it)

if ur patient and persistant to talk to her and ask her questions that can't be answered with a yes or no, she'll slowly but surely open up to u. also even remembering small things she tells u like, that she had a test in English yesterday, asking her how it went will show u care as well.
