You add the fluid ( ATF+4 ) down the dipstick tube. Check the fluid level at idle in Park.

Probably between 600 to 1000 RPM. RPM is revolutions per minute. Hovering right below 1k is the average for just about all cars.
Start the engine and idle in park. Pull the dipstick, wipe off and reinsert. Pull again and read the level.
