It could be many things. I had those symptoms with my 95 Trans Am. I was stumped for a very long time. I left the car parked for a very long time. The answer turned out to be quite simple. It was a problem with the battery. The battery had developed an internal short which was intermittent and triggered by heat from the charging of the alternator. When the short occurred, it caused the computer to shut down. The car would turn over but no ignition. The short would temporarily heal itself over time and cooling. The battery would always turn the engine over. Anyway, eventually, the battery completely died. After it was replaced, the problem did not reoccur. This may not be your problem, but it is worth checking out.
it only for going up hills in sort
It's not my firebird, it's yours. I have a 1991 Aztek. It was a prototype given to me by my Uncle George, who is in prison now for abusing animals.
Give more info on what you have tried.. Go to question/answer # 19 on the Firebird faq's list, "If a 95 firebird starts right up..." Maybe this will help?!

Listed in your Owner's manual, but you probably don't have one or you would have looked. It will be at least 4.5 qts. Put that amount in, start the engine, run for 1 minute, shut it off and wait for 15 minutes, check the level. Add until it is full. You will then know how much it holds.
Get the new belt and start by removing the alternator
