Many people think that feeding people is the same as nurturing them and loving them... as a society we often equate food with love, and a meal with friendship or interest... so that is probably where it starts, but if you suggest something else that she could do for you instead... kindly, or ask her to please share it with you, or something like that, you might be able to deflect the instinct while still returning the affection.
