I drive a stick, and I thought you knew me?! You're car probably needs a tune up, check to see hiw many RPM's you're car is running at also. Any mechanics shop can tell you if they are too low and or answer this question for you.
If you mean each time you engage car in any gear forward or reverse & it immediately stalls - you have a bad torque converter. Start engine, put foot on brake, put car in NEUTRAL, if it DOES NOT stall, but it does stall if you repeat this test when you put car in drive or reverse = bad torque converter - It's called a "stall test"
because your a failure and you obviously can't drive!
You put the automatic in neutral, or put a dolly under the drive wheels.
In most automatic cars, in Great Britain where I live, all you have to do is put the car into D (Drive) and push the accelerator. This will automatically change the gears of the car up and down.

front cause the tranny drive the steer axle
If it is a standard shift and not an automatic, yes as long as you put it in neutral. If it is an automatic you can disconnect the drive shaft. Otherwise you cannot tow it or you will damage the transmission as it will overheat.
Put your hazards on then restate the car and be off.
possibly a vacuum leak
